Editorial Assistant  

Job Overview:
The Editorial Assistant/Writer (Lifestyle) supports the editorial operations of the Lifestyle section of an integrated newsroom. This position ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and editorial integrity of the lifestyle content. The role is designed to maintain the high editorial standards with keen eye for detail and a working knowledge in an integrated newsroom.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Content Preparation and Publishing

• Write editor-approved stories on a regular basis.
• Produce multimedia content to support written features, as assigned
• Coordinate and attend photo shoots and events, ensuring that the needs
• and requirements of the team and/or the subject are met.
• Upload, manage, and publish lifestyle stories using the Content
• Management System (CMS), ensuring accuracy, style adherence, and effective layout.
• Assist editors in posting breaking news for online publication.
• Proofread articles and verify accuracy of edited copy for grammar, punctuation, and typographical errors.
• Submit finished copies to the editor for review and approval and to the Digital Prepress Unit for production.
• Uploads and formats stories, photos, videos and multimedia elements in the CMS for web and app publication.

1. Image and Multimedia Support

• Help source, edit, and prepare relevant images and multimedia elements to support content
• Maintain an organized and searchable photo library in the CMS, ensuring adherence to file naming conventions and metadata for easy retrieval.
• Optimize photos and graphics with appropriate file sizes, captions, alt text, and metadata for SEO and social media performance

1. SEO & Metadata Optimization

• Optimize images for web use, including resizing and file compression.
• Write and input Alternative Text for images and fill in SEO fields such as Focus Key Phrase and Meta Description.
• Input and maintain SEO metadata for lifestyle content, ensuring proper tagging, headlines and descriptions.

1. Editorial and Administrative Support

• Support day-to-day lifestyle editorial operations and assist with layout and coordination within the integrated newsroom.
• Contribute to brainstorming and content planning meetings when needed.
• Perform other tasks as may be assigned.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree preferably in Journalism, Mass Communication, Economics or a related field.

Experience:

• At least 1 year of experience in a publishing or media-related environment; relevant experience in business/economic coverage is a plus
• Open to fresh graduates with relevant experience in related fields

Competencies and Skills:

• Proficient in using CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress)
• Basic to intermediate proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, InDesign) or equivalent software.
• Strong proofreading and copy-editing skills with high attention to detail.
• Good understanding of journalistic style, ethics, and best practices.
• Familiarity with SEO principles and web publishing standards.
• Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
