Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

I. Marketing Management

  • Keeps track of updates and developments that affect the University as a research institution, including how its counterparts are marketing its products.
  • Conducts market research and analyzes industry trends to develop innovative distribution networks.
  • Keeps track of publication distributor and consumer behaviors, coming up with proactive solutions on how to turn leads to actual sales.
  • Regularly provides data that would show a picture of the distributor and consumer profiles and dynamics, including forecasts on short- and long-term horizons to help the University Press prepare for the future publications, in coordination with the different University Press sections
  • Prepares quarterly and yearly marketing insight reports, in coordination with the different University Press administrators, and designs a program to communicate such data to concerned sections.
  • Consolidates the year-end reports for discussion with the University Press leadership team, and provides marketing-related recommendations on how to address such realities and needs.
  • Meets with the University Press’ leadership team regularly to help identify marketing requirements, including providing feedback on the market temperaments and preferences.
  • Designs and oversees the implementation of a comprehensive marketing and promotions plan for the University Press to synergize and energize lead generation and conversion, and ensure that there will be steady and sustainable growth in terms of sales distribution and stock movements.
  • Aligns all strategic marketing efforts with the Director.
  • Establishes metrics and quality measures to determine the progress of the marketing initiatives, while regularly checking, monitoring, and evaluating the progress and achievement of agreed deliverables and timelines.
  • Recommends and implements an aggressive marketing plan, based on projected and actual market trends.
  • Develops a freelance sales force for University Press textbooks.
  • Plans and oversees a systematic and targeted promotions and communication campaign across various publication and media channels targeting local and international markets.
  • Schedules and coordinates University Press exhibits/sales with various conference organizers.
  • Coordinates book launches and events with the Head of Business and Operations.
  • Plans and supervises the stand and display at the annual Manila International Book Fair.
  • Oversees and manages the University Press’ social media accounts.
  • Develops and implements strategies to cultivate relationships with distributors and sales channels, including planning and facilitating activities and events to initiate and maintain contact.

II. Section Management and Development

  • Sets the direction of the Marketing Section and establishes operational goals aligned with the University Press goals, and University mandates.
  • Develops Section management policies, which includes marketing policies, and contributes to the development of general University Press policies.
  • Oversees and coordinates day-to-day operations, determining the workflow of the marketing process.
  • Prepares and monitors the Section's budget and expenses, recommending cost-effective solutions for the University Press.
  • Manages performance of employees in the Section by setting standards/targets, monitoring and evaluating performance, and providing development opportunities
  • Recruits, builds, manages, and mentors staff that will form part of the Marketing Section.

III. Performs all other tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor and authorized representatives.

  • Sales and Marketing Skills: Ability to strategically promote and sell products and/or services across different channels
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Coordination Skills: Ability to proactively coordinate, mediate, and manage actions in relation to others
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to guide others toward the achievement of goals
  • Planning: Ability to effectively forecast and map out intended outcomes, according to importance and urgency
  • Monitoring: Ability to assess performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Project Management: Ability to utilize established principles, procedures and policies to guide a project from conception through completion. Ability to set clear goals, formulates plans and strategies, budget setting, logistical preparations, and program evaluation.
  • Decision-Making Skills: Ability to make informed decisions based on relevant information and data, taking into consideration multiple viewpoints
  • Systems Analysis: Ability to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
  • Systems Evaluation: Ability to identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance
  • Data Analysis: Ability to organize, analyze, and interpret data, including synthesizing data into manageable information, and providing business insights.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to use one’s time and resources efficiently and effectively
  • Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • People Management: Ability to supervise employees, including performance management and development
  • Technological Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and InDesign software

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or any Business-related course
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in Marketing and Sales
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Work experience in managing service providers
