Summary of Work Activities and Responsibilities:
The Carpenter II performs general carpentry duties necessary to repair and
construct structural woodworks and wooden furniture in the University. S/He also
implements masonry, painting, roof and gutter repair works and minor welding
works as needed.
The Carpenter is expected to implement post-construction activities and
implementation of job order requests related to events.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
I. Woodwork Construction and Building Repairs
- Marks outlines and measures on stock construction material as a guide to woodwork construction
- Shapes fine and rough woodworks
- Installs hardware such as hinges, ornamental accessories, drawer/door knobs, etc.
- Repairs and replaces broken or rotten wood parts of finished furniture such as tables, chairs, building fixtures, etc.
- Implements masonry, painting, roof repair works and minor welding works as required
- Constructs structures using brick, stone, marble or any other similar material, and applying appropriate material (e.g. plaster, mortar) to cover the structure
- Prepares surfaces and applies painting.
- Heats surfaces of materials to join parts
- Glass works i.e glass doors and glass windows
- Roof and gutter works, i.e. roof leak repair, water proofing and installation and replacement of roofs
- Minor welding works which include bollards, gratings/drain, doors, gates, Christmas decors, fence, lockers, windows and tarpaulin (frame and installation)
- Services departments and offices by hauling materials/equipment and installing/setting up stage, backdrop and cyclorama
- Implements maintenance and upkeep of workplace and assigned tools by cleaning workplace and tools, repairing tools as needed, and using tools as intended and according to standards
- Implements periodical maintenance works on building’s doors and windows by regularly checking the alignment and adjusting if necessary and, applying lubrications on window’s hinges and bushings
- Perform an annual minor rehabilitation on classrooms and cafeteria’s tables and chairs
II. Section Support
- Transports fixtures using provided vehicle within the campus, as needed
- Coordinates with other CFMO sections as needed for implementation of carpentry, masonry, painting, and other items as needed
- Performs regular inspection on the building’s roof gutter and downspout, reports findings to immediate supervisor, and provides recommendation on resolutions
III. Performs other work-related tasks as may be required by the immediate supervisor and authorized representative
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge
- Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction (required for dealing with clients)
- Building and Construction: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads (required for execution of carpentry works)
- Transportation: Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits (required for transporting of fixtures)

- Management of Material Resources: Obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work (required for selection of tools used for woodwork construction and repairs)
- Time Management: Managing one's own time and the time of others (required for managing own schedule in relation to clients’ requests)
- Coordination: Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions (required for dealing with other CFMO groups)
- Service Orientation: Actively looking for ways to help people (required for dealing with clients)
- Social Perceptiveness: Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do (required for dealing with clients)
- Equipment Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed (required for maintenance of tools)
- Equipment Selection: Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job (required selection of appropriate tools for the job)
- Installing: Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications (required for installation of hardware)
- Repairing: Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools (required for repairing finished furniture)
Education and Experience Requirements:
• At least High School graduate
• Completed vocational course in wood working, carpentry and painting
• With TESDA certificate in Carpentry/Welding (or any related course)
• At least 1-2 years experience in building and horizontal construction.
• At least 1-2 years experience in masonry, finishing and painting works
