Job Description

This position oversees and/or reviews financial compliance for all companies in the Coal Business Unit. This position ensures the business unit’s compliance with standards imposed by regulatory agencies, tax authorities, lenders, and other external groups. It contributes to the collation and preparation of regulatory financial and management reporting as required. Aside from compliance, this position is responsible for identifying optimization opportunities and highlighting risk exposures related to tax and loan compliance of the Coal Group as well as drive the organization’s awareness and consciousness towards the Company’s compliance with these standards. This position is also responsible for managing financial system business processes and optimize the same for financial reporting and compliance.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Crafts and implements Tier 2 Objectives and Strategic Initiatives as aligned with Tier 1 Balanced Scorecard
  • Develop, implement and cascades new processes and procedures to enhance workflow for defined scope and establish more efficient use of resources.
  • Review and reports monitoring of loan compliance and highlight potential risks to management
  • Forecasts financial covenants from completed budget/stratplan cash flow models
  • Reviews and approves tax returns for BIR filing and Remittance.
  • Validates and approves local taxes (i.e., property taxes, business taxes, mayor permits, inspection fees, and other local taxes) and ascertain proper calculation and reconciliation with Company’s records.
  • Validates the recording in the proper accounting period tax expense and liabilities and regularly review tax related accounts in the balance sheet
  • Supports the budgeting process for the validation and review of all tax related items for all companies
  • Reviews and validates self-assessment for presentation to Controller
  • Recommend improvements in company tax policies and procedures post audit
  • Facilitates long term tax planning to consider tax optimization opportunities and minimize tax exposures
  • Ensures Transfer Price compliance for the business unit in accordance to policies and procedures set by the Group
  • Cascade and implement tax policies and procedures to ensure that all transactions are processed and recorded in compliance with the latest BIR tax issuances and rulings
  • Assist in evaluating implications to the company on upcoming laws or changes in regulations and provides recommendation to manage possible tax exposures
  • Executes standardized processes for defined scope across the group in close collaboration with other departments
  • Facilitates discussions and submissions to external auditor for tax related items to finalize audited financial statements
  • Participates in discussions with joint venture companies for review of tax/regulatory compliance as well as issues resolution
  • Direct coordination with all Departments, AEV-TSG, Banks and Lenders to ensure that instructions and dispositions related to loans are properly executed and documented as well as plans for compliance to covenants are clear and executed
  • Collaborates with all departments for completion of finance related compliance and regulatory reports or audits when requested (BOI, DOE, ERC) and resolution of issues raised
  • Engages with external tax examiners in the discussion of tax findings raised, reconciliation schedules of discrepancies noted, and documentary requirements prior to submission.
  • Aligns with TACS team on findings raised and plan for management of audit timeline
  • Participates in APGEN and internal Coal cross-functional collaboration meetings to develop and implement business solutions and optimize operations as well as identify best practices for resolution of identified.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficient in Enterprise Resource Planning
  • Proficient in MS Application (Excel, Power Point, Word)
  • Knowledge in Accounting and Taxation principles
  • With at least 5 years in Accounting / Taxation
  • At least 2 years Managerial experience
  • Education Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • License Required Certified Public Accountant
